⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I first read this novella in Have Yourself A Merry Little Secret. It was my favorite in the collection. My review for it at the time did not do it justice as there were so many novellas to review in one space. So when this story came out as a single novella I jumped at the chance to read it again and give a full review.

This is a newly discovered author to me. This novella is part of the Peril And Persuasion series. Callista, Madam Pendragon, is the most successful brothel owner in London. She has scraped and clawed her way out of the gutter to wealth, power, and prestige. Due to her profession and background she has distrust for men and no use for them. Erik Maxwell is a well traveled, experienced man who holds a secret. He is handsome and dashing. He clearly sees what he wants and goes after it. Callista embraces her power. She is ruthless and courageous. Erik is passionate and insistent. He sees a deep longing in Callista that he desperately wants to complete.

This was a nice break from all the rakes, wallflowers, governesses, and the like. The plot was original and fast paced. The characters were colorful and strong. A passionate, fun read!
