For: readers wanting an approachable book about germs.

Possible red flags: gross humor.

A really hilarious look at germs. Excellent for a curious mind, especially someone who asks "why" a lot to the things wedo to prevent the spread of germs.

Photographs of materials greatly magnified via microscope. Anthropomorphized microbes. Invitation to actively participate in the transport of the microbes through their journey. There’s a lot to appreciate about this book.

Also, glad my family owns a copy rather than borrowing it from the library, given kiddos’ tendency to reflexively do anything they’ve been told “do not do”.

No scanning electron microscope photographs of actual microbes.

I wasn’t a personal fan of this book (just based on subject matter. It’s not my thing. The writing was good and interesting enough if you like the subject) and don’t love the idea of having a roomful of students stick their fingers in their belly buttons. Although I think kids would probably love it because it encourages them to do stuff they’re not normally allowed to do.

This book was really cool! It had really cool photos and a nice story that introduces the different bacteria to children in a very accessible way.

A great way to teach kids about germs.
