16/20 - made me laugh, somewhat despite myself. Recommended if you're in a bit of a book slump and wouldn't normally read this kind of thing but fancy a bit of fluff, or else if the other great reviews do it for you. :)

A bit difficult to follow at times - it seems like the author starts in the middle of the story - but overall a good read!

This was a fun book. If you want a male in your life to read a romance, start him with this. It has plenty of action and male gaze to keep the average dude engaged. The humor was great and made it all the more fun. Also, I found Agnes attractive and the sex realistic and the romance nice without being totally sappy.

I like Jennifer Crusie's stand alone books. I read the earlier one she co-wrote with this author and was not impressed. I was pleased ro find this one was much better. It had a lot of good humor, fun characters and sex scenes that I like of her individual titles. Agnes is overrun with hitmen, the mob, unfaithful boyfriends, and a jealous grandmother of the brides as she prepares for her best friends' daughters' wedding.

Probably Crusie's best story. Or at least my favorite.
Agnes Crandall's life seems like it should be perfect, she's got the house of her dream, a great-looking fiancé, her best friend's daughter is getting married with Agnes providing the food, and her Cranky Agnes food column has spawned her one bestselling cookbook with another in the works. But lately, her writing is about the only thing that seems to be going well. Her fiancé is being evasive and the wedding on which her keeping her house hinges, is threatening to implode. But the worst happens in the opening scene of the book when an armed intruder comes into the house wanting to kidnap her dog. Agnes has a history of violence and it comes to good use when she smacks the intruder with a frying pan and he flies through a previously hidden door into the unknown basement, breaking his neck.
Opening up this basement opens a door to the past, when Joey, her cooking mentor, and Frankie Fortunato along with another man robbed a train of five million dollars. But then Frankie disappeared with the money and the basement was covered up.
Joey immediately calls in his nephew Shane to protect "Little Agnes." Shane is on another job but he immediately comes back to his hated hometown to help his uncle. The situation is not one that he's excited about but he is excited about Agnes. He likes her disposition as well as her figure. When Agnes' fiancé turns out to be a total jerk, Shane is there to help her get over her disappointment.

Despite its flaws this made me smile, and I really liked the humor in here. A fun story.

Good book and funny, and well-written. Just wish there was more Agnes/Shane on-page.

Egyáltalán milyen a munkabeosztásuk?

Another delightful book by Jennifer Crusie, though this one was co-written with Robert Mayer. As you might guess from the title, Agnes falls in love with a Hitman, Shane, but there’s a lot going on in this story that’s not what it appears to be at first. It’s confusing at times, but still lots of fun.

Agnes, the lead character, writes a newspaper column and just bought the dream home from her childhood with her fiancee. Except in lieu of paying the first three months of the mortgage, she agreed to host the wedding for the granddaughter of the seller Deborah. Deborah doesn’t really want to part with the house so she’s doing everything she can to sabotage the ceremony taking place at the House. (What’s never really clear to me is why she sold it in the first place, but I learned to ignore that question). Agnes also has a few anger issues and has been known to bash people over the head with a frying pan, which is how the story begins.

Twists and turns, a romance or two. It’s a fun book.

I did get confused at times, however. For example (spoiler), one of the big reveals of the story is that Shane is from a family of mobsters. Except I thought that was clear from the beginning so was puzzled by the reveal. There were a few other head scratchers in the story, but it was still spicy and fun. A must for fans of Julie Crusie or anyone who likes a romantic mystery with less than perfect protagonists.
