Delightful!  An enjoyable romp, with characters it was easy to root for and a hero/heroine pairing with believable chemistry.  Secondary romances were cute too.

My only real complaint is that the complications felt like they got a bit repetitious after a while.  They kept happening without necessarily increasing the stakes or having the characters learn any better so they didn't keep making the same mistake about 3-4 times over and over.  Ending was still nicely satisfying though, even if I saw it coming from the halfway point.

It's been awhile since I read a Crusie novel, but I'm so glad I snagged this one! Agnes and crew were hilarious, plus I get to mark off the Assassins square on my Ripped Bodice Bingo (assassins are just a fancy name for hitmen anyways).

The audio was pretty good, but there was a gimmick used for the sound of Agnes' and Shane's inner voices, and it was a tad grating after awhile- but I listened to this all in one day, it may not have annoyed me if I had stretched this out over several days.

I admit, it took me quite a few pages to get into this book but I think I was too distracted every time I picked it up. Once I overcame that, I really like it. I wish there was at least one more to see what Cranky Agnes gets herself into. The situations are a bit over the top like some of the scrapes Stephanie Plum gets herself into but I think this is a great fun read.

The story of Agnes, a cranky food writer with anger management issues, and Shane, a hitman tasked to protect her from people who apparently want her dead.

Agnes is struggling to control her temper, but her current situation isn't particularly helpful. Her fiance is mostly absent and evokes lukewarm feelings at best, she's in over her head with a wedding that she's supposed to organize as it takes place at her new house and her deadline approaches and she still haven't finished her article. On top of that, someone just broke into her house with a gun and tried to kidnap her dog, which she defended with her handy and familiar frying pan
Spoileronly to lead to him falling to his death through a wall that hid the door to a basement she didn't know existed
.

I am super chill all the time!

Shane, has just finished a job, or so he thinks, and is less than happy to be babysitting his uncle's "little Agnes", who is not as little as he thought and has proven that she can take pretty good care of herself. Reluctant as he is, he is still intrigued, both by the villains behind the attack and their motive, by his uncle's evasive answers to his questions and most of all by Agnes.

While they're both attracted to one another, neither thinks anything between them will happen, until
SpoilerAgnes discovers that her fiance is already married and only got engaged to her in order to make her lose her house, and her temper boils over. Feeling extremely violent and remembering her erstwhile psychiatrist's advice to vent her frustration through physical activity, and seeing that Shane, who kept her from skewering her ex-fiance, is available and not exactly unwilling, she uses their attraction to harmlessly vent her explosive anger through mind-blowing sex.

When her anger abates and she comes to her senses, she realizes that she knows nothing about him and is determined not to sleep with him again, but their chemistry and circumstances weaken her resolve, until they eventually end up in a relationship
.

The two make a very well suited couple, as she might be a bit freaked out by his profession, but isn't hysterical about it, while he is less than scared off by her temper and instead finds her cute. Neither of them is exactly normal, but their quirks make them perfect for each other and their situation helps bring them close in a very short time.

A few twists and turns, a number of assassins, a couple of revelations, a pair of flamingos, a mostly uneventful but beautiful wedding, yet another battle with a frying pan and an explosion later, the two reach their well-deserved happy ending.

Light and fun fast paced story that kept me entertained.

Fun and fast-paced. A light summer read, that I finished quickly over lunch breaks and some "pre-bed" reading. Likeable characters, some twists, some predictable events. Overall very enjoyable read.
