this was absolutely ridiculous and I had a fun time (I loved the whole big, dysfunctional, completely unrealistic family thing they've got going on - Garth!)
I loved this book! It takes a lot to make me actually laugh out loud while reading; I find plenty of things funny, but don't usually laugh aloud. This one had me giggling all the way through. A purely fun romp. I do admit, some of the mob politics get a bit confusing, and a family tree might have been helpful. Still, I just enjoyed this book way too much to give it anything but a 5. A pure pleasure through & through.
Another entertaining book for a psychically exhausted weekend. Fit the bill. Not too demanding. Entertaining. Also not great literature.

I wasn't sure at first and then I realised it's awesome. I mean, Agnes was pretty awesome once she accepted normal was not what she needed. and she was so badass. And Shane! I have lots of words to say about Shane. He was awesome and I loved all the twists in this story.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable read and I don't know why I waited to read it. Definitely a smart buy.

Things to expect in a Jennifer Crusie Novel
1. Quirky heroine with a sibling who is a person to measure their strangness against and find them normal. (this sibling doesn't have to be related by blood
2. Abundance of movie quotes and song refrences.
3. Comedy that helps progress the plot, not hinder it.
4. Steamy love scenes.
5. Realistic characters, who have flaws, and charm but don't have annoying hang ups.
6. sometimes confusin inner monologue of character
So this book had all of these. I have fallen in love with Jennifer Crusie. This novel although entertaining it is not her best. Do not make this your first read of a Jennifer Crusie. She is an author in the cotemporary romance genre and this book doesn't not highlight her strenghts as well as her other titles. Given that, I still liked the novel. I love our heroine who gets a good mean on.

Have I mentioned how much I love Jennifer Crusie? Well, my opinion didn’t change with this book at all. How can you go wrong with a cranky food columnist, mob bosses, hitmen, evil bitches, and an adorable basset hound?
Agnes is an amazing cook who writes a food column for the news paper, and who collaborates on cookbooks (most recently with a retired mafia man). Her life is looking great; she has a handsome fiancé who is also an amazing local chef, she has just bought her dream house with said fiancé, and she is preparing a gorgeous wedding at her home for her god-daughter. She has it all under control. Until a man with a gun barges into her home, points a gun at her and demands that she give him her dog.
Now everyone and their brother seems to be after her, and she can’t go through a night without a threat on her life. Her ex mafia friend sends his nephew, Shane, to look after her, but neglects to mention that he works as a hitman.
Then the wedding that was going off without a hitch starts going off the rails with the bakery canceling the wedding cake, the florist canceling flowers, and on and on.
Every character in this book is a hysterical addition to the already ridiculous shenanigans that ensue throughout the book. It’s a crazy ride, with a steamy romance, and a murder mystery thrown in. I can’t say enough good things about this one. Truly a perfect book to get you out of a slump, or to bring you up out of the doldrums.

If you want an action/romance(ish) book filled with angry, murderous, characters, this is the book for you!
