Zira, bu kitabın yeni çevrilmiş hali ile karşılaştırılınca Hamide Koyukan çevirisinin parıldadığını söyleyebilirim. Benim için yılın kazanımı Clarice Lispector ve Hamide Koyukan oldu. Bundan sonra "The Passion According to G.H." bakınıyorum. Fakat, onu da 90'lı yıllarda çevrilmiş Can baskısını düşünüyorum. Yeni nesil çevirmenlerimizi pek tutamadım doğrusu... bla bla bla...

I’m uneasy about this one. I was enthralled by the start but got completely lost and mostly disinterested in the story of the young woman. Would have much preferred the musings and philosophizing on life and writing and meaning it started and somewhat ended with to be the whole book. The writing style is difficult to follow and feels kind of like an 18th century novel which I understand from the translators note is intentional (the strangeness of the grammar not necessarily the 18th century novel part). Would love to find an analysis of this to help me process wtf I just read.
This was also a power outage book. I felt very much for Macabea and her happiness that was a fool’s happiness. Is it really so bad? Penance, acceptance, displacement, how she always seems to bring the rain

A very blunt and unashamed piece of writing about seeing the world through the lens of uneven power dynamics between the poor and the comfortable. It took a while for me to register what was happening as I read, I didn't understand the flow immediately but I ended up loving the entirety of it and its message; innocence in an evil world. An acute representation of the poor, and how people treat them as such.
This book invoked a lot of emotions in me that made me truly feel for the characters, even if it's anger for most of them. I love the quotes, but you really need to get into the right headspace before you read in order to survive such Lispector-esque writing. It's not the best novel for me, but it leaves me wanting for more of Clarice's writings.
