I LOVE a retelling!! And this one was so good. It gives enough of a nod to the source material that you get that jolt of nostalgia, while still creating a totally new story for you to fall in love with. Good world building, good character development, a fully rounded out story, and we're not giving up the plot for the spice. The dynamics amongst the kingdoms and the back story you get as the story goes on, really fill everything out nicely. And the story comes to a satisfying end.

It’s dual POV, sexy lessons, love triangle, a magical revenge plot, with a jealous but self deprecating MMC and a head strong, curious FMC, bonus also is that we get sexy times as humans as well as his glorious tentacles when he’s in his mer form.
The Sea Witch was amazing and I loved his inner monologues and reactions to watching her interact with the prince through their magical bond (he took her voice as trade to become human and can talk with her through the shell necklace she wears). At one point, she’s touching herself while alone after a night out with the Sea Witch and thinking of him while doing so, which means he was summoned and and to watch her.

Loved this book! It was so fun. Loved the character progression as individuals and as a couple. Didnt expect to enjoy this book as much as i did, and so glad to have finally read it.
I feel really bad forthe human king though, but then it was mentioned by that loyal guard guy of how the old king used to be good, it looks like he got more fearful, paranoid as he grew older bc he was scared of his ex friend, the witch king. Kinda understandable though as his friendship and trust was broken, but it would've been nice to see how much that old king has changed just so that his death didnt seem so… idk, meh? I feel like if we knew him a bit more then his eventual death at the hands of his son/sons lover would be more emotional or jarring

This story is sooo good. I absolutely loved the plot and the characters. While the beginning with sentences, it really pans out after the first couple of chapters. Averil makes a deal with the Sea Witch to become human so she can hopefully make the prince love her. Though he is not what he seems and is really a petulant crude man child and Averil does what she must to fulfill her end of the bargain. The Sea Witch is really a softy at heart and has been misrepresented by the tale twisting king, Averil father. The heat and bond that grow between the Sea Witch and Averil is next. Such description of everything in this world. If you pick this up, you won’t be sorry.
