The Sixth Wedding is a short and sweet novella that takes place 3 years after the events that occur in 28 Summers. It made me miss the characters in 28 Summers and reminded me why it ended up being my favourite romance book this year so far. But that being said, like most novellas that I read, I’m always left wanting more.
I picked up this book as it is a novella based on Elin Hilderbrand's book 28 Summers - which I loved. This book follows Jake, Cooper, and the rest of the gang for another summer in Nantucket.
I really enjoyed getting a taste of the characters new lives and where they are now (a few years later). I liked getting to hear a bit from Link and Bess too. It was such a neat idea for them all to go to Nantucket together, just like the start of 28 Summers. It was nice to get some clarity on some situations from the ending of the first book.
The ending however, made me super upset. Cooper getting married again, while the title of the book does give it away, made me upset because I just so badly want for something to work out for him. I think the worst part for me though was when, after all this time, Jake still goes back to Ursula. I'm sorry but I was not at all rooting for them to get back together, and I was even happy to hear they had split. Nothing against either of them as individual characters, but there was just so much cheating and lying in their relationship that I personally would not have been able to get past.
All in all, the writing was good and it was a good story, but the ending was unfortunately not what I was hoping for.

This novella is the sequel to 28 Summers and checks back in on the characters three years after the previous story ends. I really enjoyed 28 Summers and was excited to read this. That said, I was heavily disappointed, as it’s mostly a recap of the first book. It reads more like an epilogue than a sequel.

28 Summers didn't need this novella.
It has only been a year since I read that book, and yet I found this story hard to follow and I had such a difficult time keeping all of the characters straight.

I really disliked 28 Summers, but I usually give sequels a chance. It’s just as bad as the original. There were so many weird things included. Divorce is thrown around like candy. In an 80-page book, there’s a lot of summary from the previous one. It’s just as gossipy and ridiculous as the first.
The only positive is the relationship with Link and Bess, which I wish she had explored more. There was so much potential there that was squandered for the sixth wedding. Pass.
