Three white mice. Three jars of primary color paint. What more can be said, aside from this is a great story to introduce kids to mixing colors... I assume. Whatever, the mice are adorable, read it for them.
Oddly enough, this is probably one of the only age-appropriate books that I gave to my godson. I have a tendency to give him books that are a little too old for him... Or a lot too old for him. (For his first birthday, I gave him a copy of Edith Hamilton's Mythologies... I consider it a gift made in trust for his future.) Thankfully, he's always been an eager reader and it only spurs him on, rather than discouraging him.

One of my all time favorites! I look forward to reading the big book version during a color themed storytime.

Daughter loved this book so much - it was one read over and over. She totally learned her colors and how they mix with each other from this!

Mouse Paint is a great way to introduce mixing colors to kindergartners or 1st-graders. The book has simple illustrations with white space instead of detailed backgrounds, since the story is about three white mice on a white piece of paper. One day, the mice jump into three jars of paint one day, and discover when they step into a different color puddle of paint, they can change the color of the puddle. The illustrations are simplistic but realistic, and often the mice are more of a silhouette than a three-dimensional shape, which emphasizes the color of the paint on their fur. The language is simple and clear and would be a great read-aloud.

A fun way to learn about mixing colors to make something new.
