Book 11 of 40 for the 2015 Reading Challenge

One of the things I wanted to accomplish this year with attempting to read 40 books this year was to read some classic authors I had not read before or some of their other works that I had not read yet.

When it comes to Science Fiction Isaac Asimov is one the founding fathers of many of the ideas that todays science fiction originate from. I have read I Robot but wanted to also read some of his earlier works.

The End of Eternity was written in 1955 and can be seen as one of the first time travel stories when we talk about temporal incursions and paradoxes. All of which we have seen revisited in Back to the Future and the Star Trek universe numerous times.

The characters are excellent and has a great pace and there are a few surprises along the way that make the story enjoyable.

I’m looking forward to next picking up Pebble In the Sky…

An excellent adventure and some very interesting ideas on the nature of time travel.

Unfortunately the characters suffer, particularly the women. A charitable interpretation may be that the one female character is interested in fashion, is vivacious and needs to he saved because the men of this story are so maladjusted and traumatized that' they can't see her any further than the lens of a teenage boy (something the story fairly does comment on).

The non charitable interpretation is that we don't intersperse the plot with views and chapter's from Nöys because the author is simply uncomfortable writing from that viewpoint.

I wouldn't blame anyone for putting this down before we learn more about Nöys and I desperately hope another author takes these ideas because they are, as usual with Asimov, brilliant.

Loved this book!
challenging

It is a little unfair that Asimov managed to resolve most of my frustrations/criticisms of the social atmosphere of the book in the last 5%, but I suppose that's somewhat inevitable in a time travel book. *shrug*

A very solid standalone book that hints gently at the Empire and Foundation series.

The whole premise and the context of the book is off the charts. It blew my mind.

One sentence summary: Safety and mediocrity will not take you to the stars. One must take risks and learn to grow.
