This book genuinely surprised me and by the time I came close to finishing it I was wishing it wasn't such a short book. It took me less than 50 pages to completely fall in love with our main characters, especially Aiden.
All the characters felt very realistic and this book had that Hallmark feeling without being cliché or overdone. It’s the perfect little read for the holiday season and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a light, cute book!
( The way I went absolutely feral for Aiden is kind of embarrassing 😂)

HORNIER THAN A PAIR OF JACKRABBITS HAHAHA oh my GOD that’s an understatement. Anyways, this was just a cheesy, hallmark Christmas romance that I ATE UP.

Window shopping was a breezy fun read to get me out of my reading slump. I feel that the pace of the book was too fast however as the main character ends up calling his love interest "sweetheart" on page 42. The author did not give any time for the chemistry to sizzle from a romance standpoint so that was too fast for me. In addition, there's the certain edginess to the female MC portrayed which doesn't reflect her behaviour with the male MC. Homegirl acted tough but was a damsel in distress in half of the book. Not to mention that the character development of the female MC was done very lazily with the central problem being a toxic friend that was dragged out for fucking 50+ pages. . This central problem was solved in one sentence towards the end of book which is very lazy!

However, one redeeming point of the book is the spicy scenes which were well done. If you have a thing for bowties with golden retriever male MCs, you'll enjoy this. From a plot and character development standpoint, this book was average at best. I liked the writing though, and since this is one of the older works of the author, I'd read another recent work by her. But this one was a no for me...

So cute! This was waaay more emotional than I was expecting, but I really loved seeing Stella start over and make her dreams come true. Aiden was the most adorable hero! I loved how sweet and happy he was. This was just so much fun to read.

“You’ve given me a weird bow tie kink and nothing else is appealing now. It’s terrible. All I was thinking when that guy offered to buy me a drink was. Why? He doesn’t have any stories about Aunt Edna. What can I possibly get out of this?”

“Someday soon I’ll be healthy enough to be my own knight.”

“You get to take advantage of your own happiness. You’re allowed to keep it if they don’t want it.”

“I’m not abandoning you. But I’m not abandoning myself for you, either.”

i honestly feel like it happened one summer must have been a fluke because i ADORE that book, one of my faves of all time, and nothing else Tessa has written has even come close to it (not even hook line and sinker). this novella was just all over the place for me, the smut writing was super cringy (no man will ever 'jiggle' any intimate part of me), and the characters were honestly really bland. their personality traits were 'rough sex man who wears crocodile bowties' and 'woman who just got out of prison and has panic attacks'. it just didn't work for me at all, i think even 2 stars is generous, which sucks.

TWs: alcohol, armed robbery, claustrophobia, panic attacks, pandemic, death of grandfather (past)
