Time's Undoing by Cheryl A. Head

Eh. The story is intriguing, but the writing was distracting. The author just wasn't getting the voice right, it came across as a sixty something woman trying to write as a twenty something woman and not succeeding. The editor really should've given better guidance (ex: I don't know any women in their twenties who still call their fathers Daddy). Damn shame too, I was really looking forward to this one.

The story was good, but the writing could be better. A lot of unnecessary info is included and the perspective of Robert doesn’t seem to match an easily angered man.

Such a great and beautiful story! I loved the ending for Meg and her great grandfather!

I really liked this by the end, but at the start, I hope the mundane details ("Called this person, left a message and hope to hear back") get removed in the final version. Why would I want that?

There is so much to love about TIME'S UNDOING by Cheryl A. Head! We've got a young, determined journalist, a mystery to solve, family history and lore, a conspiracy, romance, friendship, danger....! Head has written us an exciting and engaging novel. AND on top of all that, an important novel that examines the history of racial violence in the police force and the ways that history connects to the violence we still see today. The way Head manages to pull all that off is more than a little impressive.

Grab a copy as a little prezzie for yourself as we close out Black History Month. ;-)

Thank you to Netgalley and Dutton for a free review copy of this book.

Everybody from Michigan knows the Detroit Free Press isn’t sending anyone anywhere for a news story. That alone was difficult for this MI native to get past.

The gratuitous mention of Airbnb on repeat was almost enough for me to DNF this title. What’s the deal with all the brand name dropping ? Yikes.

While I did enjoy this book for the most part (I listen on audio-highly recommend, it was a very well done ensemble) it read like a YA novel, which is fine except it isn’t a YA novel. The premise is fantastic, perhaps it needs slightly different marketing target to reach its full potential.
