This was so boring. This book suffered both extraordinary lack of plot and yet somehow had the most overcomplicated plot I've experienced. Parikh simply couldn't decide what this story was supposed to be about. Was it a circus tale? About WWII? A story of a girl overcoming disability? A romance? A historical fic? There was just far too much going on, and yet it felt like literally nothing happened. I did not find any of the characters likeable and didn't really care what happened to them.

I don’t love historical fiction, and one with a self absorbed, irritating protagonist even less, but I did finish it, so there’s that.
