Some of these poems spoke to me and some did not but her point of view was clear and she had some very well written lines and poems. It made me want to read more of her poetry though!
This was quite different from the poetry I'm used to reading, but I was into it!! A combination of the most beautiful and the most ugly language used to paint such precise pictures. My favorite poem from the book is called "Down There."
I really liked this collection I thought it was fantastic. Sandra Cisneros writes about such important topics regarding being a woman, a person, a colored woman, a colored person, ugh she's great. My favorite is "You Bring Out the Mexican in Me" and how it reads,
"You bring out the Dolores Del Rio in me
The Mexican spitfire in me.
The raw navajas, glint and passion in me" etc etc.
Definitely one of the greatest works ever collected and the first collection of poetry from a Mexican writer I have read. Stunning.

Quiero ser tuya. Only yours. Only you. Quiero amarte. Atarte. Amarrarte. Love the way a Mexican woman loves.
As always, Cisneros writes in a way that makes my heart swell. Sometimes, it is nice to know that my internal monologue isn’t unique to me. Many women before have felt similarly, Cisneros captures the complex terror and bliss perfectly.
This poetry collection is incredible. Sandra Cisneros is a phenomenal writer and plays with language here in really interesting ways. I will be returning to this book again and again.
sensual and passionate and full of longing. somehow i like the titles more than the poems themselves.
Powerful, passionate poetry. Witty, funny, emotional, relatable. I laughed and wept.
I've read better poetry. I've also read worse poetry (looking at you, Rupi Kaur).
