(read it a long time ago, probably late 60s, very early 70s, loved it. Also enjoyed Lawson's Rabbit Hill, and MAY have read that one to our kids, as I have my own copy somewhere.)

Oh, this is joy. I think I haven't read this since I was a teenager, maybe earlier. It is so witty and entertainingly written

I read this as probably a second grader and absolutely loved it. I feel like maybe there was a Disney version as well which added to my love of it.

Reading it again now to Jackson, it's not perfect (Lawson can't resist a stereotyped mouse battle in Versailles) but what a perfect way to get kids interested in colonial history. And it's just well written enough, for example the idea of Amos living in Franklin's disgusting old fur hat, to make you wonder for just a second if maybe Ben didn't come up with all of those inventions on his own, but needed help from Amos.

A clever way to introduce children to the life of Benjamin Franklin, his era, and the issues that were important then. Younger readers may have some difficulty separating the fact from fiction in this tale.
