AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I am holding myself back from giving this five stars because I'm thinking/hoping book four will just blow me out of the water. So, 4.5.

Man, I held off on reading this series for a while and thought I'd waited til the whole trilogy was out - only to find out there is gonna be a BOOK FOUR that comes out on April 5th. I am sooooo happy, though, because I timed it perfectly - April 5th is only 11 days away!!

I read this in one day and probably could have read it in one sitting if life didn't interfere. Scott Westerfeld has this down to an art these days. There was just enough info about previous happenings that there was good continuity, but not so much that it felt like an info dump at all. There were familiar characters, and new characters, and even new faces on familiar characters!

And that ending!! Lots of surprises, and I'm so glad book four is right around the corner.

This is by far my favorite series now. Scott Westerfeld is my favorite author. One word for this book.. WOW i can’t wait until the next book comes out in April 2022

The cliffhanger at the end had me in a chokehold

I don't normally get angry and slam a book down. But phewww did I get angry.
I refuse to believe Col is dead. After they fell in love a little too quickly, I ended up really liking them. He was the light to Frey's dark. Now what does she become?
Totally don't trust the sister either. She's just out for herself in all this.
After reading the reviews for the next book, I don't think I'll continue sadly. The uglies series was my favourite growing up and I don't want to ruin it.
And in my mind, this book finished differently too. With Col not needlessly dead.

Edit: the more this book has sat with me, the less I have liked it. And the lower my score has gotten.

2.5 stars

This one pretty much pissed me off. All the time I invested in this series only to kill off the ONE person I cared anything about. The only thing keeping me going at this point is my building hatred for one character and needing to see how they are thwarted.

Did my worst fears from the second book come true? Yes. I just want a story of sisters who have each others' backs and stay that way. Why is that so hard to come by??
Did I like the book anyway? Also yes.
Was I sad about Col? Yes, but not heart-wrenchingly so. It seems very much like something the author would do.
Did I pretty much immediately afterward start shipping Frey with Boss Riggs? What can I say, apparently all my shipper heart needs is 2 people in a room together.
Am I excited for the next one? Heck yes. I've been waiting for Tally since book 1. Time to re-read the Uglies series.
