I liked this book. I liked the writing style, that it was an easy read; a pleasant read, on the whole, and I liked the characters, although the two sisters annoyed me, especially the pedantic main character, Hassie. But the ending was really odd and confusing. I had to re-read it about three times to see what I'd missed before I came to what seemed the most likely solution. It was just a weird, not very effective, way to end it and I think it could have been done better. I also didn't like small things like referring to cow's milk as "normal milk" and portraying plant milk as weird; outdated way of thinking and speaking, and seemed especially out of place (perhaps deliberately so) given that the protagonist tries to act all liberal and superior. Overall though, a good book.

It wasn't what I was expecting as the book felt more reflective on Hassie's past with Robert, and didn't have as much emotional connection to the characters as I'd hoped, especially with Murat and actually gardening. Didn't address racist remarks towards Murat very well either
Although, I liked the descriptions of nature and feel of an old town
