Pratchett-y, Wynnes Jones-y, very glad this is coming to Canada next summer (and will update to the stunning new cover when it shows up here).

Not for my age group, but there's a good story hidden in there. Not bad for a first book, I hope James finds his stride and his next books get better.

As far as tween/YA witch fiction goes, this was good! I enjoyed it although it seemed a little slow to build up and then the ending was really good, if not a little too fast. I feel if some plot pacing issues were addressed this book would’ve been a 5 star!

This is such a great book. This is the kind of book I wish I had when I was a wee girl.

I loved Arianwyn and was really hoping she would be able to show that horrible Gimma who's boss! The many different spirit creatures were amazing, some terrifying and some beautiful and haunting. I'm looking forward to book 2.

What a charming little story, reminds me a bit Kiki's Delivery Service. A young, rather lonely and inexperienced witch trying to find her place in the world.
It had nice messages and lessons on friendship and self-acceptance wrapped inside a colorful and interesting world that felt both familiar and magical.
Perfect for middle-grade readers or anyone looking for a light-hearted witchy adventure.
I'll definitely be giving the sequel a read in the future.
