Well it is impressive Ellroy can write in so many different voices, I find more than a few of them unreadable and skipped all the Danny stories in this novel. Also, even in his novels I always feel like he goes overboard with slamming things into the plot, and so when he's cramming things into short stories it makes it even harder to follow.

An eclectic collection from the master. Nonfiction and fiction blended in Ellroy’s particular style. A lot of ruminating on L.A. which is part of why people come to Ellroy.
