I'd probably rate this higher after a re-read. It was very atmospheric, which I enjoyed. However, I found it hard to follow at times. I believe that was intentional, and a smart choice on Jackson's part considering the direction she took the story in.
 
It wasn't very scary, more creepy and unsettling. Which is what I was hoping for because I am a soft, anxious marshmallow and need to be careful about the content I consume. If you're not a fan of gore/murder/body horror in spooky books I think this is a good option, but do check out the content warnings.

This book is beautiful, Eleanor's voice throughout is so unique. I loved all of it until the last 5ish pages, hence the 4 stars. 

But If you are looking for a paranormal book with answers as to what is causing the hauntings this is not for you. A lot of the paranormal activity is up to interpretation.

Came for the horror, stayed for the characters. I felt Eleanor, my Nell, in my bones, and the relationship between Nell and Theo will stay with me for a long time. I think this will be one I revisit again and again.
