"Tastes Like Candy" was such a fun and inventive horror book. I have just recently gotten in to reading horror, and have been struggling to find a book that I enjoy. As a horror movie lover, it has been really disheartening to try so many horror books, and just end up not liking them in the end. However, this book has knocked all of the other books I've read so far out of the part. I would argue that this is my favorite book of the year so far!

To summarize the story, it is about a group of high school girls that are just about to enter their senior year. At their school, they have a tradition where the graduating seniors organize a scavenger hunt for the incoming seniors. This years hunt is going to be at the town carnival. How fun! Except, there is a killer on the loose, killing each of the girls, one by one...

The pros for this book are truly out the door. I loved the plot, the atmosphere, the characters, the killer reveal, the kills, and everything else about the book. In terms of atmosphere and humor, I would compare it to the movie "Bodies, Bodies, Bodies". I think the gen-z humor was fun, and not over the top. The characters were all VERY well developed, and all of the girls had their own unique personalities. I really grew to care for the characters before the killing began, so it made their deaths that much more heart-wrenching. As for the reveal, I personally think that it was really well done. I guessed the killer at around chapter 17, but that really didn't take away from the reveal at all for me! I think the killer's motive was very fun and fit their character quite well. Overall, I think that this book is fantastic, and it is a book that any slasher movie fan will love.

What a fun summer slasher! This definitely scratched the itch I had for a good carnival horror and was a gore filled good time! It may have been a little predictable but the death scenes had me rolling with laughter
