Let's say it's 3.5 but it's worth the roundup.
After finishing the Grisha Trilogy and seeing how little screentime my boi the Darkling had, I decided to pick up this book. I was surprised to see it gave me more compact and practical information about the world despite it being only a few chapters. I think it's written even better than most of the Grisha trilogy.

Reading this before the series was probably a bad idea because the story had no significance or meaning to me. It was also kinda confusing as there are many characters. Although I've already read Six of Crows, the world was a bit hard to understand.
El Darkling era una lindura! Este relato explica muy bien qué fue lo que lo inspiró a crear el Segundo Ejército, además de por qué no confiaba en nadie. Me encantó.
For me, new to the Grishaverse, a brief but impactful introduction to the 'verse and what I'll assume is one of the better known characters.

I hadn’t expected such a short short story. It was good and I was wrong in my assumptions first (having remembered something that obviously didn’t happen in the main books).
3.5 ⭐️
I had a different idea of where this story would go, but I liked it. It really showed that the world was different from the time where Alina lives. More vicious and every Grisha for him/herself.
And you're classis "people aren't born good or bad."
Did expect more though, but for a short story it was interesting.

Getting a small view of the Darkling as a child makes me feel a bit sorry for him, he was molded into the creature he is by his mother
Fear is a powerful ally, but feed it too often, make it too strong, and it will turn on you.

I wanted more! I’m one of those that was rooting for the darkling, which saw him as misunderstood. I still do!
I want to read an entire series about him, his life, his decisions, what made him?
This was like a teaser. Bardugo saying, ’see, you weren’t that far off, he is a good child, with good intentions.’
May we please have more Darkling????

The 30 pages of darkling were a better story than 1000 pages of mal and alina
