I was supposed to understand... but now I'm just sad. I symphatized, once again.

Damn it. I thought I was free from his claws.

This was in the back of my copy of Ruin and Rising and omg it was so good. It was so cool to see a very small part in the Darkling’s past and I feel like it really gave some insight into his character. I absolutely loved this and it was so interesting

I'm not quite sure if should have started with this prequel as the first In the grishaveverse but nevertheless I enjoyed this very short read.

I somehow had no idea this existed before today. I am not really weak in the knees for the Darkling (anymore, I guess), but it was a touching and frightful little story about survival. I see how this fills in some shades of grey in Darkling's character, but to be honest, I'm feeling a little bit tired lately of the idea of humanizing charismatic mass murderers, even if they have completely tragic & sad backstories. Personal preference.

Too short! I want more of Baghra teaching him and how and why he was so cruel to her
