it's really hard for me to rate short stories like this because they are so.. well, short
but this one was really cool to read, especially after everything that happened in the grisha trilogy

I read a sample and never was able to find a full copy of the book at my library or in Libby or hoopla.

I read this one and the graphic novel back to back, and while I did enjoy both stories, this one compared to the graphic novel feels a little lacking. It’s still good though. I’m not a big fan of the Darkling, but I quite liked Eryk in this story, and I liked how he handled situations. It felt more natural than the graphic novel when it came to Eryk’s thoughts, because he didn’t voice them out loud so often, which kind of gave his character more depth, but it also felt a lot faster and could have taken a little more time in some situations, so if I had to choose, I’d say the graphic novel is the better read, they’re both good though, and if you’re a fan of the Darkling, both should be great, I think.

I really enjoyed this short story! I love the Darkling as a character, and it was really interesting to discover the event that killed Aleksander and created th Darkling as we know. It gives the Darkling a more human aspect and it makes you better understand his actions in the main trilogy.
