I shouldn't even consider this a book read as it's so incredibly short, but that was probably the most interesting 'novella' I've read in a while.

Whoever this Darkling character is, I already love him and I'm captivated by his back story. It's so short that it's hard to really talk about without spoilers, so all I will say is that it's heartbreaking and intriguing.

I have no idea what any of the Grishaverse stories are about, but I'm genuinely intrigued and I'm looking forward to moving through the rest of them!

The Demon in the Wood is a prequel story to the Shadow and Bone trilogy where we see how the Darkling gained his powers as well as how he attempted to conceal them for his and his mother's safety.
