Forse prima o poi scriverò un vero commento. Per ora mi limito a predire che questo libro finirà sul podio delle letture più belle del 2023.

The narration was so raw and real. I laughed and cried through the whole book

The book was fine but just didn’t really do anything for me.

I listened to this audiobook obsessively until it was over. I found myself taking extra walks in the neighborhood just to have more time to listen.

I've come to believe recently that the way our culture approaches death (or really just avoids it) is detrimental. And sometimes bearing witness to stories of grief softens a place within us that leaves us more emotionally accessible--for other people & ourselves. But those ideas didn't make listening to the grief in this novel any easier. But it felt so necessary. And somehow renewing to go through the whole grief arc with the narrator.

The whole thing isn't a tearjerker. In fact, most of it isn't. I cried at one very specific part of the novel. You'll know it when you get there. But mostly, I recognized some of the hallmarks of grief from watching people close to me go through them. I found myself nodding and remembering and wishing everyone would listen to this book so they'd be more empathetic and more present when they ultimately run headlong into someone else's grief.

So we’ve caught up to the point where the sister dies in the timeline…and there’s still 8 hours left??? I don’t care for this unfortunately

This was overall an enjoyable reading experience, but I was left feeling unsatisfied by the end. I didn't feel that Kathy was overall worthy of the good memories Sally seemed to have of her, as she treated her pretty badly in a lot of her time described in the book.

2.5 rounded up. I got this book from a blind date with a book. The first half of the book was decently entertaining and pretty unhinged. But as the book went on, I felt that it was dragging. By the last 100 pages or so, I just wanted it to end. There is also a small subplot of romance, but nothing meaningful really came of it and it seemed pointless. The drama or romance I hoped would happen didn’t - which left me wishing for more while also wanting the boring story to end.

I have been waffling between three and four stars on this one. I enjoyed the conversational style, which made it easy and engaging. I never lost interest or struggled to get through at any point. Ultimately, it just never really landed anywhere or made a discernible point. The ending was vague, not good or bad. I wanted to like it more, but upon reflection, I'm not even sure what I'm supposed to be reflecting on.
