This is beautifully written, as are all the books in this series. Juliet Marillier is an exceptional writer, and I've loved this family, this place, and these books. That said, this is by far my least favorite book of the six. The romance made me eye roll so hard and the "climactic" last battle was...anticlimactic. This is an exceptional series, and I'm so glad I read it, but I wanted more from the conclusion.
I really love the way that Marillier tells a story. After I read a books she's written I want to clasp it to my chest and sigh in contentment.
yay! LOVE this series, so happy after reading this last installment
With the previous installment being slightly disappointing I was delighted that the Sevenwaters series ended in a high note – as a whole the series is right up there with Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings, which the greatest praise I can give to a fantasy series. Although this is very different from those two old favorites of mine: not only have I discovered Juliet Marillier as an adult, each of the six books follow a different main character, a different female member of the Sevenwaters family. Their stories are filled with magic, romance, adventure and mystery and together they form such a spectacular world that you don’t want to let go off it. Even the installments I found some faults in were only disappointing compared to other Marillier novels and those set the bar very high.
A good end to the Sevenwaters series. I don't know if it is because I was tired of being in this world or not, but I just couldn't connect with this one as much. Like all her heroines, Maeve is a strong, courageous woman. The romance was a little hard to believe. I would love to read some more about the Sevenwaters family especially Clougagh and Cathal's children.

`Held by hands that cannot hold Stands the steed so proud and bold. Chieftain’s son with seer’s eyes Observes the Lord of Oak’s demise. As the age begins to turn That is when the oak will burn.’
It's the end of an era. I will forever hold this close to my heart and cannot even begin to describe how hard it is to walk away.
Thank you Marillier for an incredible journey.

Maeve, daughter of Lord Sean of Sevenwaters, was badly burned as a child and carries the legacy of that fire in her crippled hands. After ten years she’s returning home as a courageous, forthright woman with a special gift for taming difficult animals. But while her body’s scars have healed, her spirit remains fragile, as she fears the shadows of her past.
Sevenwaters is in turmoil. The fey prince Mac Dara has become desperate to see his only son, who is married to Maeve’s sister, return to the Otherworld. To force Lord Sean’s hand, Mac Dara has caused a party of innocent travelers on the Sevenwaters border to vanish.
When Maeve finds one of the missing travelers murdered in the woods, she and her brother Finbar embark on a journey that may bring about the end of Mac Dara’s reign — or lead to a hideous death. But if she is successful, Maeve may open a door to a future she has not dared to believe possible...
Another superb story by Juliet Marillier. I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book and it didn't disappoint. It was like reading poetry and just absorbing the story as you go through. Maeve is a beautiful character, strong but sad.
This book dwelt far less on the personalities of the other members of Sevenwaters it really was all about Maeve. Having said that, her relationship with her brother Finbar was very moving and it would be great to have another book from his perspective. I absolutely loved it!

Juliet Marillier's way of telling a story creates in your own mind an intricate vision of a world that (sadly) doesn't exist, but you feel it must...because it's too real. Maeve's complex world, her humanness, her sadness, her strength...all of it draws you in and keeps you. The mystery and twists of fate made the book a quick read for me (I couldn't wait til the next chance I could sit down to read more.)
This book may be my favorite of the whole Sevenwaters saga.
