I love me a heist story so I wanted to love this but just no. Too many magical items that need half a page of exposition. Didn't understand why anyone cared about the mcguffin even 80% in. Most importantly, though, the characters felt less like people and more like walking collections of quirks. (I should have stopped when Tarantula Guy showed up, as his only personality trait is Likes Tarantulas.) Read Six of Crows (yes, YA) for this book except a thousand times better.
