My Thoughts Exactly

Lily Allen

Really loved this book! It was a good mix of celebrity gossip that you’d expect from a pop stars memoir but Lily also delves into more hard hitting details about her mental health and her stalker

I think this is a very important, entertaining, and thought-provoking book. As may be expected, it’s not very literary - more simply descriptive - but it is still good. Allen’s statement that “when women share their stories, loudly and clearly and honestly, things begin to change - for the better” rings very true, and she should be proud of what she has done for women everywhere, particularly within her industry. It will be difficult for some people to read, and I would be especially interested to hear Sam Cooper’s side of the story, but this is Lily’s book and therefore that is the view point we get. I’d really recommend it, especially if you think you don’t like Lily Allen (newsflash: you don’t know her, and you probably never will) or have been caught up in tabloid stories and found yourself judging female celebrities more harshly than you might judge a friend in a similar situation. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but if we had it, we wouldn’t have this book.
