This book beautifully explored tough themes like homelessness and the enduring legacy of 9/11. The author did a wonderful job of making the protagonist relatable and sympathetic, and I would highly recommend this to anyone, child or adult.

It is ten years after the September 11th attacks. Deja was not alive when the Twin Towers were still standing. Soon she learns about the impact of this day and how it completely changed the lives of all of the adults in her life. Deja's father has severe PTSD, which keeps him from holding a job. Deja is forced to take care of her younger siblings during the day because they cannot be alone with her father. Deja's family has had to move to a more dangerous neighborhood and new school. as Deja attempts to navigate her new environment and find friends. She is learning new pieces of her past and interacting with new people.
The diversity in this book felt forced, but I am glad that there was an attempt. It certainly puts the 9/11 attacks in perspective, a new one, even if you were alive when they occurred. I wanted more development overall, but it was an interesting concept.

This deals with an important topic about 9/11. A good book for introducing the topic of Americans and freedom, terrorists, and family.

A really interesting concept for a book. The idea that many of today's student have no idea the impact 9/11 still has on society. The book tells us of Deja's struggles with herself and her family. Also her quest for understanding while working on a new school project involving the fall of the twin towers and the impact it had on many.
