Basically a story about people searching for meaning in a meaningless world. I wish I'd liked it more, but I just found it OK.

a friend recommended the book, and i was a bit sceptical because it's a bit out of my comfort zone, buuuut i really loved it. the story and worldbuilding is great.

The writing is excellent but plodding. There are several moments that stood out as excellent and worthy of praise, but overall the book meandered and felt repetitive, eventually boring me.

This book came quite close to being a very good book, and I'm pretty torn about it.

On one hand, there are neat ideas contained in the book. Good story seeds for RPG campaign, if you ask me. The oneiric bits were done quite well, and the atmosphere of "well, noone knows, but here's the gossip" worked for the setting of the book.

On other hand, the book lacks flow. It *does* look like a video game (I've checked, and the book was published first) - our character travels from A to B, to C, to D... and every point brings a new adventure, largely independent of others. The character development is really mediocre, and the twist at the end is quite predictable. It really looked to me like this book was rushed.

Having said so - if you like apocalyptical books, you'll most likely enjoy this one.

A strange apocalyptic novel yet infused with the nuclear fears of the 50s. Mankind survives, just, beneath the streets of Moscow. Cowering in the Metro tunnels from the radioactive world above and multiple horrors around them. One man sets of on a journey, his Odyssey, learning about himself, humankind and the terrifying "dark ones".
What an ending! I'm desperate to get my hands on the next one now.
