Grace is one of the worst characters I’ve ever read, but everything she does makes perfect sense. That alone makes the book pretty impressive— there aren’t any obvious villains.

The background of Japanese culture in Victorian London was fascinating, as was all the details about watchmaking and the plausible reasons for clairvoyance.

It took a few chapters for me to settle in but then I really enjoyed it.

I found this a little too Ocean's 11 for me. Lots of interesting little bits, but I'm never quite sure if it's the writing that's confusing, or if I'm just not paying enough attention.

I found myself really enjoying this. It was fantastical in a very fun way, the characters were a combination of interesting and flawed, and I loved the slightly steampunk-y vibes (who doesn't like a clockwork octopus?).

This is a doubtful book, wavering between realities, until you aren’t sure who’s being honest and who’s right or wrong. I’m still not sure. But it’s a beautifully written book — Pulley has a lovely way of expressing ideas and putting images in your head that’s immensely appealing. I think this is a series and I don’t know if I’ll continue, but it was a very interesting read for how it made me think.
