I really enjoyed experiencing Tara's journey--although there were definitely some not-so-enjoyable events that occurred. I find that Tara's journey was one of both strength and weakness, hopeful and pessimistic, individualistic and communal. There is definitely no right-or-wrong, and there was never a moment of failure in my eyes. For me personally, learning to accept Tara and her journey was more about learning to let go of my past mistakes and to look toward my own future.

The only reason I did not give this book 5 stars was that I found the writing style slightly choppy. I find that memoirs can be like that (as it's a fast rendition of a life story), but it sometimes took me out when I wanted to learn more but the memory was already over.

Omg. This story... This person. It's been a long time since I've repeatedly yelled at the sky while experiencing an audiobook.

In Educated, Westover has given an incredible, inspiring, and heartbreakingly traumatic story of her life. I know it will stay with me for the rest of mine.

Holy cow. What is it with me and reading books at the EXACT right time in my life that I needed to read them? This was phenomenal. Gut-wrenching. Hard to listen to at some points (I listened to the audiobook). It was scary to be in the midst of the deepest, darkest parts of the author's life, and then out of nowhere, she would describe an experience so incredibly specific, but so deeply familiar to my own life, that it caught me completely off guard. This book made me think deeply about what it means to think for yourself. Who do we allow to do our thinking for us? Who do we allow to construct our reality?

Wow was this interesting. It’s honestly scary that there are people like this out there. I feel so bad for everyone involved because they all need some type of help. I would highly recommend this. I do have to say it wasn’t what I was expecting. All the reviews I heard didn’t say anything about the physical and emotional abuse so I was a little shocked.
