I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The author is witty and perceptive. I love her fresh takes on several stereotypes associated with the creative life. It's not every day that one encounters a writer with this level of pragmatism that elevates her artistic sensibilities. There were definitely many points at which I paused and reflected on my own approach towards living and creativity. I found it particularly interesting that she personalises several concepts like creativity, ideas and inspiration. I love how she embraces being slightly delusional and being choosey about being the positive kind. There's so much to learn from Elizabeth Gilbert. That being said, there were parts that were kind of repetitive that spoilt the pacing for me a bit. However, it still remains deeply insightful.

I skimmed some parts, and some parts needed to be said. Biggest affirmations from this book: a creative pursuit is an affair, and going to arts school is not worth your money (or even time).

I read this by recommendation from other writers, some really kind words here I'll keep with me for a long time. There are some weak spots wrt to human history & politics, but I'm expecting a lot. For example her comments about the history of humanity, early civilization, and arguments about how "humans have always been doing things this way". The writing process she outlines is also kind of lonely :'(

One of my favorite books of all time that I read every couple of years. It so mirrors my philosophy on creativity and ideas and was the first book that ever articulated it in a way that made me feel really seen. Although she’s has a big more magical thinking than I do (the part about the book idea based in the Amazon was weird), I still appreciate and adore this entire book.
