A very creative and unique story with Native American mythology tied in. I was not aware of the animal people legends and was interested to learn more about them.

This is the kind of book I loved to read as a child. I adored the apache mythology that was woven into the stories throughout this book. I loved every single character with all their whimsy and quirks. I loved the implicit inclusivity.
Some people seem to dislike how slowly the worlds are built-up before the main action, but I enjoyed and savoured every bit of this, and at times wished I lived in the Reflecting World. Darcie Little Badger builds two worlds beautifully and then entwines them in a magical way. I’ve not read Elatsoe and Sheine Lende yet, but I can’t wait until they are available to borrow at my library.

First of all: buddy reads are great. Second all: Darcie Little Badger is now officially an auto-author for me.
I loved Elatsoe so much that when an opportunity to read A Snake Falls to Earth came up, I felt very confident that I would really like this book. And I was right. Little Badger has a unique voice that cuts leaps off the page and captures your attention immediately. Her ability to create unique characters in unique situations feels unmatched as I look at other books I have read. She is a master at story craft. She also has a perspective not often found in fiction and she leans heavily into the oral tradition of Indigenous culture in a way that pulls the reader right in.
I loved the way Nina and Oli interact and their individual paths. The Reflecting World is rich—as is the world Nina’s. I think that Nina really came into herself and her growth was earned and celebrated. I left with a few loose ends but still felt very satisfied at the end and am definitely looking forward to Little Badger’s next story.

I loved this book! I feel like I still have some questions that weren’t answered but I somehow think that’s the point. I really enjoyed how this was set up as well and that it was like a story within a story.
Oli is by far my favourite character and I really loved how he went from a scared fresh in the wild cottonmouth to a true hero in the end!

I read 71% but just couldn’t get myself to finish so I’m not rating it. I gave it my best but the pace was just too slow to keep me engaged.
