Creative worldbuilding and solid plot once it gets rolling (which took a while, but it was worth hanging on!). The action scenes were exciting.  Gideon is likeable enough, but I really, really enjoyed the character that turned out to be the antagonist the most.

Critique:
Personally, I wasn't too fond of the narrator voice, too snarky for my taste and keeping track of all the characters and titles might have been easier if their given names were used more frequently to describe them.
As for the mystery, the stakes weren't too clear (how final is death in a necromancy setting? What was everyone's goals exactly?) so as a reader you were left guessing about a lot more than just the whodunit. I'm guessing navigating the pages will be easier in the sequel, now that the groundwork of the setting has been established.

I'm not sure yet what to make of the other main character, Harrow, but I'm sure I'll find out in the next book.

The first 16 chapters were very very slow. But once I hit the halfway mark it picked up, and after 2/3 in, I finished in a day.

The characters are fun and the tone is very fresh. It was great and I am devastated.

I was completely confused throughout my first few readings of Gideon, but in the very best way.

A book that refuses to hold your hand while you hold on for dear life. An immaculately well laid plot in a world built with the bones (lol) to carry it through. Each character was uniquely well-rounded in motivation and personality. A shocking 5 star rating for me as I expected to be left wanting, but instead found myself salivating for more.

It definitely takes some time to warm up to 99% of the characters other than Gideon, but there's great characterization going on in there.

i had the time of my life reading this book, sometimes things got a little confusing but i had an absolute BLAST.
the writing is the absolute best thing ever, Gideon’s narration was so funny and definitely my favorite thing here, i never wanted to put the book down.

"One flesh, one end." This book will have you cracking up over its dialogue and asides, then turn around and break you-- but GOD IT'S WORTH IT. Necromancers in a futuristic space opera setting? Check. Murder mystery? Check. Super buff lesbian with a sword and a sense of humor? Absolutely. Scrawny, sapphic bone adept? You betcha. You'll be cracking up and breaking like the best of eggs over this one, so surrender to The Locked Tomb brainrot and break with me-- you won't regret it. ;)
