Deeply boring and not particularly frightening. Asks you to commit to an overly complex premise, while also switching between reading the main text and the footnotes. Worst of all, the character in the footnotes is a club kid in LA. So, someone with no personality beyond drinking, having sex, and doing drugs. Don't waste your time with this one.

I found House of Leaves to be weirdly enjoyable and confusing. I feel like I’ll need another 2 days or so to process what I just read, which is a bit out of the ordinary for me. Reading the book itself was amazing! It was so unique and fun. The content of the book was a little less enjoyable, but once you get into the style, you can get into the story a bit more.
I tore through this book in a little over a week for a reading challenge. It holds a special place in my heart because I was not doing well at the time and it gave me something to focus on. The stuff I liked I liked A LOT. There was a good amount of stuff that was dry and maybe would make me lose interest if I was doing well and balancing my other stuff better.
There are two different story lines happening at once that we flip between. I really liked the flow of a lot of the writing in both stories. I enjoyed a few of the characters to varying degrees. Tom Navidson is the best character, hands down!
I was hoping for this story to be scarier but I am pleased with the weirdness of it and of the house. The footnotes and annotations were a slog and something I really only skimmed over. They didn't feel like they added anything for me when I was trying to actively read them.
