"Birdie Girl, you're pretty much my goddamn everything."
- small town
- country singer FMC
- former MLB player turned cowboy MMC
- workplace (his family's ranch)
- age gap (he's 11 years older)
- he falls first
- no breakup
- 🌶️🌶️.5/5
- dual pov
I have to admit, this is my least fave of the series so far. I could be slumping, but it took me until about halfway to get into the story and warm up to the characters.
You have grumpy Ford, whose musician brother calls and asks him to look after Reese, the famous country singer. He clearly doesn't want her on the ranch and is kind of mean initially.
But he falls head over boots and becomes obsessed. Reese has had zero control over her life for 10 years, and she struggles to let Ford in when all he wants to do is care for her. But he patiently waits, showing her that he won't love her any less for showing him her broken pieces.
"I see you, Bluebird. Every version of you. Broken. Whole. Angry. Sad. I see you."
So, while there are some good moments (mostly Ford caring for Reese by organising therapy, setting an alarm for her pills, buying her presents for attending therapy... you get it!), it didn't quite live up to my expectations.

Burn the Wild is beautiful, heartbreaking perfection! Ava Hunter's Runaway Ranch series is truly a place where even the most broken or unsure will find a place to rest, rejuvenate, and rediscover who they are. Hunter's writing is engaging and well paced, her characters are deeply human, and her romance is pure and understanding. This series continues to blow me away and melt my heart!
Ford and Reagan are two kindred spirits who are both a bit battered from life. When they first meet they might get off on the wrong foot, but as these two spend time together and open themselves up, they find a soul mate who truly understands them. This novel is emotional, distressing, and uncertain all in the best ways that mix together and create a heart wrenching romance! I loved their banter, I loved the hard work that goes into understanding the other and seeing that person in a new light. These two misunderstood, taken advantage of souls, find strength and growth in each other which makes this romance one that holds such richness and depth.
I adored falling in love with these characters and you will too! I so very highly recommend this series and Ava Hunter, I have been continuously impressed with her work and I am so excited to continue on this journey with her!
Thank you so much to Valentine PR for an eARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
