It had a good basic premise but I found it hard to follow. A lot do the twists weren’t explained well or didn’t make sense. And there were a lot do characters and names and a lot of characters who were not me person with multiple names

I really wanted to like this book, and I dont think its a terrible book exactly but I didn't enjoy it. I did like the topics that the story was bringing up and the conversations being had around domestic abuse etc. But the main mystery wasn't set up in a way that was actually enticing to me so I wasn't invested at all in what was happening for a good chunk of the book. There was multiple timelines that were were experiencing which is usually one of my favorite things but for this book it got confusing at times and felt like it was just muddying things up. Like, did that diner thing happen now or in the past, oh it was the past, wait no, it was now. I dunno.

Admittedly I did listen to it on audiobook and wasn't super into it so perhaps I missed something and didn't realize it but even when I did start getting interested in the mystery that confusion was still there. (and usually I'm pretty good at following context clues). Then then ending felt rushed, the relationships felt hallow, I didn't connect with anyone, it felt like there were too many people and too much going on but then so much time where nothing was happening.

It was a struggle and the more I think about it the lower my rating goes. I was originally planning on giving it like a 3 stars but I actually didn't like this book. I dont fully know why I didn't connect.

Overall, as interestingly hooking as the premise makes it out to seem with interesting characters and a shocking mystery to boot. Absolutely could not put this one down.

I received an ecopy of this book via Netgalley; however, my opinions are my own.

I enjoyed the mystery and the ride it took me on. Other than that, I couldn't help but think Gray should retire from being a P.I. More than once, I found myself thinking, "How are you not connecting the dots!" Still another  enoyable from Hall, though.
