What a sweet classic re-read to start the new year out with. I don't believe I've read this in the last 10 or 15 years. This is adorable. I love how Anne's voice and language changes as she matures, yet she stays "herself". I could use more Anne in my life this year! Romance, joi de vivre, delicious layer cakes that are not at all flavored with liniment...

So lovely <3 the book does a great job at exhibiting Anne's whimsical outlook on life, and effectively captures the spirit that it's intending to portray. Anne's love of the natural world, appreciation for beautiful things, and ability to build strong connections are all so palpable throughout the novel. When coupled with the grow that we follow her on as she navigates her life in Green Gables, it's altogether a highly enjoyable read.

I did find the ending to be abrupt in its sudden tragedy, and of course while that is a realistic portrayal of how life can go, it felt like a bit of a 360 when considering how most of the book was largely uneventful in terms of plot (moreso snapshots of different memories/smaller stories.) Nevertheless, I'm very glad to have read it and I do see myself reading more of the series!
