I seen the film before reading this novel which may have assisted the sense of dread I had while reading this. I knew where these characters would go and I think a first time reader would also pick up on the inevitable fate of these 4 characters. Sara’s story for me was the most tragic as he was constantly misled by Doctors who prolonged her addiction. I understand some of the criticism of the lack of dialogue marks but I think it added to the overall chaos of this novel.
I read this book a few years ago. its not for everyone. While it is graphic, it is a great story about life and addiction. It is wonderfully written and it makes you think about your life and the choices you make.

DNF - I tried reading this but I couldn’t get past the first two chapters. I had a hard time following this book because there's no quotation marks, apostrophes and the dialogue is all jumbled together. I couldn't tell which character was talking.
I'm not squeamish to read books about drug use or taboo subjects so I was really excited to read this book. I really liked the movie!
I think it'a total shame that I can’t get into experimental fiction writing. Different strokes for different folks.

a wonderful story of self-destruction and disillusionment.
A bit hard to read due to the fact that it is nearly impossible to tell the difference of who is talking early on in the book. This is because there are no quotation marks and very little puncuation. However, after a bit you get the feel and learn how each person has a style of "speaking" and that makes it easier to tall who is talking when.
Often the people speaking are the ones addicted to drugs and sentences that are simple and short in the begining later become long and rambling as they get more into their drugs of choice.

I tried to read this book a year ago and I failed. But I bought a movie on DVD and I really liked it so I decided to give a book another chance. And never regreted it. It was really good story about young people who are drug addicted and trying to make their dreams come true. But sometimes desire isn't enough...
