this book has ZERO quotations. The dialect from the only black character feels so racist considering a white man wrote this book. not only that, this book moves extremely slow. the movie is better than the book hate to say it. the book has a good message/story though.
too difficult to read..anyways drug story, Better wath the movie.
I wish I had read this before I saw the movie. I loved both. I was leaning towards 4 stars when I finished the book, but I haven't been able to get it out of my mind so I have to go with 5. I think it has my favorite Preface and Forward of any book I have ever read, and that actually added a lot to my experience of the book.
Requiem for a Dream is a fantastic movie. The book? Hard to follow. Selby writes like a drug user himself. The paragraphs are long - sometimes pages long - and filled with run-on sentences. The book is rambling and took me a long time to get through - a lot longer than I would have expected a novel of this length to take.
i forgot that i read this book until i recently lent the film to my niece. it was one of those novels that haunted me for months after i read it, scaring the crap out of me for a while.
fantastic writing, and a great movie adaptation to boot.

Impossible writing style, made it through five pages. 🙃
Hubert Sebly's "Requiem for a Dream" is a dark descent into a world of addiction, poverty and hopelessness. He chronicles the lives of four people who become addicts as their lives take darker and darker turns.
I liked the story (though the ultimate ends for the characters all seemed a little on the extreme side.) The writing style was a bit challenging at first but ended up being appropriate because it all sort of reinforced the story itself.

I like to think I’m quite desensitized to many disturbing things, such as gore and body horror, but I would have never expected to be as disturbed by a book like I did with this book. I’m even more surprised because I kept reading how bleak and hopeless the story was, so that usually lessens the blow but I feel as though it made it worse for me. While I was expecting to be affected the most bu Sara’s storyline (which I was), I’m surprised by how much I felt for Harry and Tyrone and especially Marion. They were in such denial the entire time.
