Loved this story. The main character careened thru his life, and started on a bike ride by accident that started in Rhode Island and ended in California.

I read this book some time ago. I had forgotten about it until I saw it on a list of "feel-good" books. It is one of those stories that lingers in daydreams. It inspires awakening. It gives me the feeling that someone is sitting on my chest and I desperately need to shove him off and run! Great book.

It's almost Forrest Gump bikes across the US!
After his parents die in a car crash, an overweight, 40-something man learns that his long-missing sister is also dead. Sis was a bit nuts and brother doesn't seem altogether mentally healthy himself!
We learn their story through flashbacks and bits of it shared with folks he encounters on his journey. The story is interesting, but the ending left me wanting something a little more coherent.
Easy, fast read.

This book is a gem. I wish it had been a book club selection. It's worthy of much discussion.

I'm listening to the audio version this time and reminded what a great story this is!
Even though I read this book before, listening to the audio version (read by the author) was an incredible experience. It was just as good the second time and maybe better given the author's own inflections in the reading. I would recommend this book to absolutely everyone!

The writing is a bit choppy but I very much enjoyed it nevertheless. The fact that I have personal connections to many of the locales was an added bonus.

A really good book about a man going through great personal tragedy and finding a way to triumph. The main character loses a lot in this story and is near to losing himself until he embarks on a cross-country bicycle ride. The book is the story of that journey - both the one on wheels and the one in his mind. It is a well-told tale by a first-time author.

This was horrible . I gave it about 3 stars until half way thru and then it got worse and worse. Couldn’t finish the last 40 pages or so.
Also the author has a weird obsession with breasts. He mentions them at least 100 times.

This was really just an OK book. Dangerously close to 1 star. There are moments of clarity in the book, but a lot of it felt disjointed.
