I don't even know what to say about this book. I'm going to be processing it for a long time, but I can this right now. This book is important. It's beautiful, real, magic, mysterious, and, both overtly and with a sort of poetic subtlety, speaks the truth about women and the ways in which men and the world treat women, the ways in which women can and should and should not be seen. This book came along at a very opportune time in the book world and I hope it is lauded as the crucial, gorgeous story that it is.
I'm mad I let this sit on my TBR for so long, though I finished it in a day. Just out-of-this-world writing.
I really enjoyed this book. I do not think it will be a re-read for me in the future, but I liked the characters, and thought the story line was different. I also appreciated the different descriptions of the changing settings. I would read more of this author's work, and this book held my interest. I also love Bees and horses so a win win. I also love a good villain so I appreciated the Scarecrow man. I liked the obvious theme of vision, and loving what we see, more than the substance of someone.
Weird and magical. Kind of an abstract story, but that's what I really enjoyed about it.
This book wasn’t my favorite. It felt all muddled and as if the author herself didn’t know what she was trying to say. The book was trying too hard to be a mystery, but also a teen romance, but also a surreal fantasy and it didn’t quite fit the bill for any of those genres. Overall, it was a mess and I didn’t like or relate to any of the characters. Personally, I wouldn’t reread or recommend.
