This book was not for me. I love the concept of the cyborgs and haven't really read anything with this type of technology and its integration with the human anatomy, however, this was also my biggest issue with the book.

I know I am a person who needs a hard understanding of the "magic system" of the world, so with there being no detailed set up of how Cinder's cybernetic anatomy is was bothering me. They say she only has an arm, a leg, and some adjustments here and there, mostly in her chest cavity, so what is this thing about her auditory processing and information coming across her eyes? How does that work? Her eyes and ears don't have an interface for that type of information to come across.

Continuing on with the cyborgs, why are they second rate citizens? What would have been cool was that people who are cyborgs were people who needed money so they sell parts of themselves for money. So with Cinder having 32% of her body being mechanical could turn heads because usually it's adults who sell their limbs and so a minor being a cyborg with her guardian being total human would be taboo. I don't know, this idea just seemed so much cooler than "the humans are racist".

These characters were too young for how this book portrays them. Age them up four years and things would be a little better in my opinion. Nothing against 16 year olds saving the world, but they just didn't feel like sixteen and eighteen year olds.

Why was she not flagged as a Lunar earlier? Are they humans but were born on the moon? Then how do they have fancy powers? Or are they an entirely different race? How was her being a literal alien missed during blood draws?

Wow this book was so cool! It’s my first sci-fi book I’ve read and I’ve fallen in love!! Especially with the characters in this book, say hello to the newest member of Kai’s fan girls lol!
This book was a little predictable, but I loved the journey and the vibes so I didn’t mind!
Also heads up, this book is pretty heavy imo!
Probably because the pandemic themes hit so hard cause of Covid!

I loved this book. I'm really into YA fantasy/sci-fi at the moment and this did not disappoint for some light, fun escape. The ending is very abrupt, as seems to be common in certain series I've read lately, and I wish some of these authors would spend a bit more time bringing it to a close. Cliffhangers are meant for TV ratings, not books.
I listened to this book on audible and Rebecca Soler did a fantastic reading.
