I really adore this series and this book was no exception, however this was the first I had listened to as opposed to reading and while the narrator did a fine job, it made it harder for me to focus on. I had a lot of ideas as to where the mystery was going and I was kind of close but didn't quite guess it which was fun. I liked that we got a bit of resolution in the time travel, will she stay or try to go, area. I am not sure if Ms. McElwain plans on continuing the series because it was a tidy ending but I hope she does just because I enjoy the stories and plots so much that she is putting forth in this series.

Omat's misogyny was very off-putting and didn't make sense. The portrayal of gender inequality seemed exaggerated to me. A modicum of research suggests that women would not be banned from hunting, for instance, even though it wouldn't have been common or encouraged.

Those details just made me...uncomfortable

This book has magic. I have aphantasia, and it’s not as complete since ketamine therapy, but it’s still like a 4 (if zero is darkness and ten is photographic). But every time I picked this one up I was transported. I could feel the ice, and I could see the fur.

My feelings about the story itself are… complicated. I have a feeling I’ll be thinking of it for a while before I sort out what I really feel about it.

The most interesting plot I’ve read about in years, but delivered so flatly it was hard to get through. I alternated between reading a physical copy and listening to an audiobook to change it up, but the writing just lacked something for me.

I loved the story, but Brandr’s character was flat to me. Everything toward the end seemed to kind of get jumbled, and Brandr’s character made even less sense. This book also covers gender, race, and colonialism in… possibly not good ways? The author’s white, but the story is about Inuit, there is a lot of talk of Omat’s gender, and some other stuff.

The story was fast-paced and never boring and I liked Omat’s character, but idk how I feel about the aforementioned issues were handled.

I feel like I highlighted the entire book. So much information I knew nothing about. The character Omat, Is part man, part woman, a mystic, Hunter, dreamer. The only part of this book I found difficult, was the battle scene in the end, I found it hard to relate.

This book is incredible. The first few pages contain some of the most beautiful writing I've ever read. It's a tough read at times though- definitely check the trigger warnings because there are some painful moments. But it is a wonderful journey that melds wonderful myths and traditions together to make something wonderful.

Way too slow. It took forever to get to the action and even when it got there it immediately went back to being slow. Plus it didn’t really know what it wanted to be. Was it a story about an Inuit person meeting a Viking or an epic battle between the gods? If it had just been about an Inuit person meeting a Viking I could have vibes with it. I liked that. But the gods part was too jarring.
