First Lucy Score book of 2025, and I was not disappointed. I love a good small-town vibe where everyone knows everyone, there is a local villain, and of course, a little romance to tie it all together.

Lucy Score continues to be one of my favorite authors, and she still holds the top spot in my reading list. Hazel, which is coincidentally the fake name I use when I go out, was such a great mix of chaos, heart, and strength. She is figuring out life after a major event, reclaiming what is hers, and coming out stronger on the other side.

Then we meet Campbell. He is rugged, quietly charming, and just trying to help his brothers and their company while navigating his own path after leaving the nest and spreading his wings to make sure they work. He is still figuring things out when Hazel shows up, asking him to go on dates for her book research. The two strike a deal that works for both of them, until feelings get involved and everything gets a little messy, in the best way, which I am a sucker for.

I loved this book and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys small-town charm, fun projects, and sharp banter all wrapped into one. And let’s not forget the eagle named Goose, who throws in a few surprise moments that genuinely made me chuckle.

I am already looking forward to the rest of the series.

P.S. there are a few spicy scenes so beware!

I had pretty high hopes for this one, since I loved the Knockemout series. But it turned out kinda blah.
I found the fmc annoying. The third act breakup was also annoying (and just there in 2 sentences).
The book is also very long while not a lot is being said.

This book grew on me the longer I read it. The characters are lovable and I look forward to spending more time with them in book 2. I am okay with suspending disbelief in rom coms but at times this books became a bit too unbelievable. The cheesy factor is high but overall it’s an enjoyable read.

Fun but cringey writing, per usual with Lucy Score.
