Started out slow and was hard to get into. Sped up towards last 100-150 pages. Cute story. I felt his love build over time in book but not hers so story felt disconnected at times.

Lucy Score is known for her robust romance novels, and ‘Story of My Life’ follows Score’s established formula. Story Lake is a small town full of quirky characters of both the human and animal variety.

However, not all books are for all readers, even when the book is written by a favorite author. This one was perhaps too long, and it felt like it dragged a bit. It also focused heavily on small town politics, which is not something I enjoy reading about.

That said, I did enjoy how this book felt like a love letter to romance readers and the entire romance community. It’s also full of quotes that make readers feel seen.

“It was a shame the universe didn’t tell you when you were in the middle of the best years of your life.”

“Sometimes I wish I were brave. But then I remember how comfortable I am and decide that being brave is overrated.”

Hazel is a rom-com writer who is kind of drying up after a horrible divorce and a couple books that didn’t do well.  She decided to move to a small town for inspiration.  The town is failing and at risk of being annexed to the town over.  She buys a house unseen and it needs a lot of work. The Bishop brothers take it on and Cam is grumpy and cautious.  Lucy Score does it again, can’t wait for the next book in this series!
