I enjoyed how Doidge concluded the storylines of this first 3-book arc to reflect the politics and natures of the Adept World. She gave us the ending the story needed, and I respect that she goes there. It can be challenging as a writer to side with the story vs. what you think audiences would prefer, but it makes a more authentic tale. Since the Dowser Series continues, Doidge also left an exciting opening that piques your curiosity about where Jade’s character will go from here.

A little formulaic and wooden compared to earlier ones in the series. The author is deteriorating I think.

Treasures, Demons, and Other Black Magic is the third book in the Dowser series. In this book we begin to learn about Jade’s paternal lineage. With the discovery of who her father is Jade unlocks more of her powers, which comes in handy as she fights off demons.

This is the most action packed of the books so far. The plot keeps you intrigued throughout the book. As with the previous book we continue to get to know Jade better. Along with the new discoveries about her powers Jade is faced with increasingly difficult challenges. I enjoyed seeing how Jade and her companions would meet each challenge and seeing if they could indeed come out victorious.

Meghan is a masterful writer. So much care, thought, love, and attention goes into it and you can tell. The action is so good, and the slight romance in it is also good. I have recently got into romantacy as a genre, and I have found I tend to like that more than regular fantasy. However, I greatly enjoy the way this urban fantasy is done. It has such great action and intrigue, and I find it hard to imagine this as more of a romantacy alien an urban setting. Though, I know Meghan, the brilliant writer she is, could find a way. That being said, I think this story is perfect as is, with the romance in it. Jade Godfrey is a force, for justice and for love, regardless of it not being in the romance genre. And I love her all the more for it. Cannot wait to see where her story ends (and keeping my fingers crossed she makes other appearances).
