I thought the protagonist was too annoying and her plan to get a guy to fall in love with her through K-drama clichés completely nutty and infuriating. I gave it nearly 40% and decided I have better things than spend the last of my reading year suffering through this.
This book is a Must Read for any K-drama fans out there.
There are no surprises in this book, and just like a K-drama you know exactly what you’re getting into- for better (the sweet romance!), for worse (just -talk- already!), and everything in between that gets our characters to their happy endings.
If you’re not a K-drama fan before reading this, be prepared to check at least one out. My recs: The King 2 Hearts, Secret Garden, City Hunter, and Aarang and the Magistrate.

Kind of reminiscent of “To All the Boys I’ve Loved before” - a cute read, but nothing madly memorable about it.
This was so dramatic and over the top and more than anything, fun! I’ve never watched a kdrama before but I know what I’ll be doing all summer now!
3.5, I enjoyed this funny and super rom-com teen fiction about Desi, a girl on a mission to snag the new, cute, art student as her boyfriend by using an intricate list of Korean Rom Com rules to do it. I loved the relationship between Desi and her dad and I liked that Luca was actually a cool character and it just eye candy. I did feel the book dragged in a few places and a lot of the stuff Desi did was pretty unforgivable, but someone I was still rooting for her all along.

If you are looking for a stable, healthy teen romance, this is not the book for you. If you've read the blurb and know anything about K-dramas, then you are going to get exactly what you think you will: a flawed, yet largely still endearing main character making the awkward, cringy, and sometimes dangerous mistake of trying to apply K-drama principles to her reality.
You have to suspend your belief for this book. You will still have to close the book and scream into a pillow from the secondhand embarrassment or absolute disbelief of how far Desi will go with her plans. I'll warn you now: if you know anything about the tropes in K-dramas, you have an idea of what you're walking into and it will rarely be pretty. But you will also find the story of a girl who has constantly fought for success. You will find the love of a home broken by the loss of a parent/spouse. You will find the lesson that not everything can be controlled, no matter how much easier life would be if you could.
I wasn't entirely in love with the romantic interest, Luca. In a more developed story, he would have had some major growth to do as well, though he did have some likable moments! My favorite parts focused on the relationship between Desi and her father, and the lessons on love and grief through the loss of Desi's mother. As the teen who also had the Dead Parent Bomb, there were cavalier moments that summed up exactly what that was like in high school. They were short moments, but moments that made me nod furiously with the validation.
A solid way to spend an afternoon, and the unrealistic teen RomCom that my heart needed right now.

I enjoyed the effortless, fast-paced writing style, for sure. a lighthearted little teen chick lit was a nice diversion. but I did not like just how many times the main character created situations that could have led to irreversible damage for the guy. he most definitely should've stayed broken up with her.
I super love K-Dramas! So when this book came out I definitely had to read it. It is everything I hoped for and more. Desi is good on the soccer field as well as everything in the academic field. However, when it comes to love she is clueless. When Luca the artsy handsome guy shows up at school she is attracted to him, but makes a fool of herself in front of him. She decides to take matters into her own hands. She binge watches K-Dramas and emerges with the determination that she will get the boy. This can only happen if she follows the steps of a K-Drama heroine. Thus the craziness starts! I never knew what was going to happen next. This was super funny and I totally recommend it!
As a korean drama lover, I found this book SO enjoyable and i resonated so much with the main character. The book is predictable but I liked that. It was light and fun, much like your typical Korean drama. I especially enjoyed the effort to include references to the Korean language and culture.
Also, loved the shout outs to OC and UC Irvine, my alma mater!!
